LED Panels
What are LED panels?
A LED panel is a fixture that consists of a panel with built-in LEDs. It is a handy and energy-efficient replacement for fluorescent tubes that were previously installed with the necessary fixture in grid ceilings. The advantage of LED panels is that you only need to remove a panel from the ceiling in order to install it. You can also choose to mount this fixture on the ceiling using a frame or pendant set. This allows the light source to be used as a replacement for all kinds of fixtures, including conventional ceiling lights and spotlights.
Which brands are well-known LED panel brands?
At Any-Lamp, this fixture is available from various brands, such as: Philips, LEDvance en Noxion LED panels. These top brands assure you of a good lighting quality with a long service life and good guarantees.
What are the benefits of this kind of fixture?
LED panels have a number of advantages compared to conventional luminaires. We have listed these for you below:
- They are 70% more economical than fluorescent lighting, which ensures enormous savings on your energy consumption.
- The fixture has a long lifespan; up to 70,000 hours, which is 3 to 4 times longer than fluorescent lighting.
- Panels are less prone to failure, thus reducing replacement and maintenance costs.
- They contain no toxic gases and can be recycled, which is better for the environment..
- The luminaire can be easily installed in three different ways.
What types of LED panels are there and where can they be used?
The best way to clarify what types of LED panels there are, is by looking at the luminaire's glare ratio (UGR). The UGR value tells something about where a certain LED panel should be used. This is even made mandatory in the NEN-EN 12464-1 standard. Below you can find the used UGR-values:
- UGR<16 (<15) - Ideally used in detailed work environments, such as technical drawing rooms.
- UGR<19 - This glare level is the most common and is perfect for use in study and office environments.
- UGR<22 - For sophisticated industrial work, a UGR value of 22 is recommended.
- UGR<25 - This UGR is applied diversely; from cloakrooms, staircases, corridors and other general areas to working environments that require routine industrial work.
Glare levels play a major role in the productivity and well-being of employees, students and other attendees. After all, the longer people spend time in a room, the more likely they are to experience light nuisance. Therefore, the right UGR value is essential in many companies and institutions to prevent light disturbances.
Why are LED panels with UGR<19 particularly suitable for offices?

Office environments have a focussed working atmosphere. Employees are busy with various activities for about 8 hours a day and for that you need good light. The UGR<19 value ensures that the light is emitted in such a way that, throughout the working day, you are not hindered by too bright light. This is reinforced by the way a LED panel already distributes the light by default. Why? These fixtures are used for general lighting and emit indirect light. This means that the light is not directed but diffused.
TIP! If you want to maintain focus and concentration in an office, we recommend choosing the light colour cool white (4000K). Check out the best LED panels for offices here!
What colour temperatures do LED panels have?
LED panels are available in various colour temperatures: daylight white (6500K), cool white (4000K) and warm white (3000K). The first two are particularly suitable for use in working environments. Cool white luminaires stand out perfectly in offices, schools and other public institutions/workplaces, whereas daylight white luminaires are mainly used in healthcare or detailed work environments. They support attention and reveal details that would be swallowed up in a warm white light colour.
Warm white, however, is mainly used in rooms in which a cosy and relaxed atmosphere is desired. Areas of application include hotels, the hospitality industry and general areas. Warm white light stimulates the body to relax and thus creates a pleasant atmosphere. All further information on this wide-ranging subject can be found in the blog article: 'How do I choose the right colour temperature for LED?’.
How much light does this luminaire produce?
Many LED panels have a light output between 3000 and 4500 lumens. At Any-Lamp, however, you will find luminaires with a light output between 1500 and 7200 lumens. Therefore, you have the right lighting solution for every space! The specifications for each light source state what light output they generate.
Are LED panels dimmable?
Yes, many of our LED panels are dimmable. We mainly sell DALI products. This abbreviation stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface and means that these fixtures can be controlled and dimmed both individually and in groups. You can also set up your own lighting system, which then works fully automatically. This means that you no longer have to do anything yourself. Would you like to know more about the convenient DALI system? Then read our DALI fixtures blog. Dimming also saves you energy costs. The fewer lumens a luminaire emits, the less electricity it consumes. You can see all dimmable LED panels here.
What sizes are there?
These fixtures are available in various sizes, of which the LED panels 600x600 and the LED panels 1200x300 are the most common. Other measurements are:

- 200x1200 millimetres.
- 200x1500 millimetres.
- 150x1500 millimetres.
- 600x1200 millimetres.
- 120x1500 millimetres.
- 300x600 millimetres.
- 300x300 millimetres.
- 50x1130 millimetres.
How do I assemble a LED panel?
You have three possibilities to install a LED panel in or against the ceiling; you can filter on this in our filter menu:
- Recessed mounting in a grid ceiling.
- Surface mounting by means of a frame.
- Surface mounting (hanging) by means of a suspension kit.
Installation of LED panels in a grid-system ceiling
The simplest solution is installation in a grid ceiling. Here you can simply remove one of the ceiling tiles and place the LED panel. Grid ceilings are available in various sizes, of which 600x600mm and 1200x300mm are the most common sizes. This also applies to the sizes of LED panels available at Any-Lamp. Handy, isn't it?
TIP!Would you like to know more about installation in a grid ceiling? Then watch the video in the LED panel installation blog.
Surface mounted installation of LED panels
The LED fixture can be mounted directly against a standard ceiling with a frame that you attach to the ceiling. You can then insert the LED panel, as shown in the picture below.

Another way of mounting the LED panel is to hang it up; for this you need a suspension kit consisting of fixing clamps and cables. You attach these to the ceiling, after which you attach the panel to the suspension kit. This can be seen in the picture below

How many LED panels do I need per square metre?
To determine how many light sources you need per square metre, you need to take the height of the ceiling, the amount of natural daylight that enters the room (many or few windows) and the colours of the walls and ceiling into account. Concerning the latter; white walls and ceilings reflect more light than dark ones.
On average, you need one 60x60 LED panel per 8 square metres, assuming a ceiling height of 2.5 metres. If you convert this to a room of 100 square metres, you will need 13 of these fixtures. You can always opt to supplement the general lighting with auxiliary lighting, for example in the form of recessed LED spotlights or LED downlights.
