The technology indicates the operating base of a light source. The most well-known and energy-efficient example is LED. Other techniques include Halogen, gas discharge, TL (fluorescent) and the light bulb.

The wattage indicates how much energy a light source consumes. With LED lighting, the wattage is considerably lower than with conventional lighting. LED lamps with a higher wattage generally also have a higher light intensity (number of lumens).

When you dim lights, the full power does not have to be used. You therefore save extra on energy costs. Dimmable lamps can also be used to create an extra cosy atmosphere. Keep in mind that you need a LED dimmer to dim LED lights.

The cap/base of a bulb is the part that connects it to the socket in the fixture. In Ireland, B22 (Bayonet) caps/bases are still the most popular, although E27 (Edison screw) caps/bases are becoming increasingly popular. GU10 is the most common cap/base for spotlights. Check which cap/base you need carefully as many other types are also available.

Colour temperature (Kelvin) | 4000K - Cool White |
i
The colour code is a combination of colour rendering (CRI) and light colour (Kelvin). The first number indicates the colour rendering (1 = very poor colour rendering, 9 = maximum colour fastness). The second and third number contains the light colour. Example: the colour code 830 consists of good colour rendering (8) and warm white light (3000K).
|
Colour Code | 840 Cool White |
i
Colour rendering is also known as Colour Rendering Index (CRI) and indicates the extent to which a light source reproduces colours, compared to the actual colours in daylight. Products with a good (80-89 Ra) or excellent (90-99 Ra) colour rendering show minimal deviations in the colour spectrum.
|
Colour Rendering (Ra) | 80-89 |
i
The number of lumens (lm) is the light output of a light source. The higher the number of lumens, the more light the light source emits. The wattage and the number of lumens are not connected to each other. An LED lamp with a low wattage can have a higher number of lumens than a conventional lamp with a high wattage.
|
Luminous Flux (Lumen) | 2400 |
i
The Luminous Efficacy (lm/W) indicates how efficiently a light source uses energy. We divide the number of lumens by the wattage. The higher the number, the more efficient a product is in terms of energy consumption. LED lighting has a considerably higher lumen/Watt ratio than conventional lighting.

You need a LED starter if the fluorescent lighting in your current fixture also contains a starter. In that case, you have a fixture with a conventional ballast (EM). A LED starter replaces your current starter and ensures that a LED tube works.

i
A ballast can be seen as an energy regulator that switches on the lighting. Is there a starter in the fixture? Then this is a conventional ballast (EM). Fixtures with an electronic ballast (HF) don't have a starter. A LED driver can be compared to an electronic ballast and only works with LED lighting.

The most common lengths for T8 LED Tubes are 60cm, 90cm, 120cm and 150cm. For T5 LED Tubes this concerns 55cm, 85cm, 115cm and 145cm. Switching to LED? Then always check the length of your current fluorescent lighting. Do you want to know more? Then read our blog!

Ideal replacement for fluorescent tube
This 120 cm-long Osram LED tube is the ideal replacement for a fluorescent tube. That's because it uses just 16 watts of power to replace a tube that uses 36 watts, yet still produces the same amount of light. An average fluorescent tube emits about 85 lumens of light per watt, for example, whereas this tube emits 135! That means this Osram LED tube produces a total of 2160 lumens.
Energy efficient
Using this LED tube instead of a fluorescent one means energy savings of up to 60%! It boasts the best possible energy label of A++ and another advantage is its much longer lifespan.
Easy installation
This LED tube is universal and has the same G13 fitting as a fluorescent tube. It's suitable, therefore, for fixtures that have an electronic ballast (ones without a starter) as well as ones that have a conventional ballast and a starter is included for fixtures of this type.
Quick return on investment
Although this LED tube is a little more expensive to buy initially, you can earn that money back within a couple of years thanks to the lower energy costs. A lifespan of 60,000 hours means you'll carry on saving money for approximately 15 years during normal use too! For extra peace of mind, this product is covered by an all-in warranty of 5 years as well.
Beam angle of 160º
Conventional fluorescent lighting distributes its light over 360° and that includes areas where it's not needed. This tube, on the other hand, distributes its light over 160° which means it doesn't waste any power distributing light where it's not needed.
Cool white - 4000K
This LED tube has a colour temperature of 4000K which means it emits a cool white light. That makes it ideal for use in spaces like offices and classrooms because this colour temperature aids alertness and concentration.
