An LED tube is able to provide the same amount of light as a fluorescent tube using far less energy. This Philips LEDtube EM High Output, for instance, has a lumen-to-watt ratio of 160 which is almost double that of an average fluorescent tube that only has a ratio of 85.

Easy installation

Fluorescent tubes distribute light over 360º which means light is also directed upwards where it's not needed. This LED tube, on the other hand, has a beam angle of 160º. This means light is only directed downwards and to the sides where it's needed most.
