What is standard L80B10?
When using LEDs, their lighting tends to decrease gradually like any electrical device. There is a standard called L80 B10 that helps to determine the lifetime of LEDs chips.
What does the standard L80B10 mean?
The standard L80B10 contains two indications in its nomenclature. This means that its reading is divided into two parts : first of all we have L80 and then we have B10. A definition would be : “time after which B% of the LEDs emit a luminous flux lower than L% of the initial flux”.
It means that a minimum of 80% of the luminous flux will be maintained for a defined period given the maximum ambient temperature.
The second part B10 means a minimum of 90% of the luminaires in an installation will respond to the level of maintenance of the defined luminous flux.
Example : If we have a luminous flux of 50 000 hours L80 B10, this means : after 50 000 hours 90% LEDs have a flux less than 80% of the original flux. All LED products from Any-Lamp meet the L80 B10 standard !
In the chart above, we can see that after 50 000 hours of use, LEDs are not at 100% of their capacity as time has been. After this lifetime, it's 80% if we follow the red line, 70% if we follow the blue line. Imagine that in normal conditions of use, it represents 25 years !
With the binning - relative to systems of measuring and sorting out LED with the same bin ranges - we are now aware that sorting the different LEDs that make up a fixture is important. In order to have each of them very similar with their characteristics. Moreover, manufacturers focus on the luminous flux, the color light as well as the voltage during the selection. This is important too when it comes to indicates the lifetime and global of a LED lamp.
